I figured the gas would be pouring straight into the crankcase :))
Need a 'breather' hole on the 'gas can!' It is creating a vacuum!
lid is loose
I'm really getting a kick out of these videos! When my wife married her first husband (at age 14!) he had money and a collection of old cars. They had one of these, turquoise I think. They swapped the 'D' and the 'F' on the front. Whenever we saw one of these on the road she would call out "It's a Dorf!"
Charming old truck, not bad for as old as it is.
I'm about to start my own project "rustore" on a '98 Civic Sedan that's only been sitting for three years. I enjoy watching how you do it.
fyi THE 170CI PRODUCES 105HP, WHEREAS THE 144CI ONLY PRODUCES 85 HP. ALSO IF THIS IS A 1ST GEN 170, WILL BE A 4 MAIN BEARING CRANKSHAFT, VS 2ND GEN 7 MAIN BEARING CRANK.
Suitable replacement would be 200ci or 250ci inline 6 (7mian bearing) used in the Mustang, and "newer' Falcons. A 4speed manual Trans would be as nice improvement.
85 net hp
Those wheels look great! Only thing better is Crager SS's!
Best condition I have seen on an old truck by that tipe of year
Cool video Mustie1 I really enjoy listening to you narrate as you walk us through on what your doing. What was that round thing you used pliers to unscrew on the side of the Carb?
Ratty? Looks pretty clean to me.
Yes slots for the WIN Big n littles are perfect
Could you or someone please let me know the tool that was used to ID the lug pattern? Thank You!
Fuel resistant PTFE tape can be your friend !
The guy who painted this, as a child, had a neighbor with a Schwinn "Orange Krate" with the cream colored banana seat.
I like that little pick up truck, reminds me of the Commer pick ups (UK) ! there’s an orange one if you google it !
Can’t see the point of oversize tyres on this little economy truck.
You might just have a keeper there Mustie. That would not take much to win trophies in original unrestored category of your local car shows. Just wash it and clean it real good then shoot the outside with clear coat to preserve it.
last time i rebuilt one of those it came with a fiber washer to go between the brass fitting and carb body.
Why do you not remove the engine completely and then you can fix it without having to work in a confined space...? No cherry picker?
Watch roadkill on their econoline truck. The had overheating issues. Might have been self inflicted, but they do have some comments on stock cooling parts.
This Econoline is definitely better than "He Hate Me" from Roadkill. But yeah, a 302 would make it so much cooler.
A LOT lest rust on that frame than on the Toiletota!
Still would drop a 4 or 6 cylinder diesel in her...manual trans...mini duals
A 302? That Truck Needs a 351! ;)
Get the boys from Skid Factory to help you put a Barra in it, then you could give Millsy a run in his Bedford, lol.
VERY VERY NICE truck!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mustie. You need to use 5000K fluorescent tubes to have the best light to film. You also need to make sure they have a high CRI rating. Above 85 is good
I like long videos like this one.
Stick with a straight six but a 300 ci with a Clifford intake and headers. I hear the 300 runs smoother than a 302. The 300 may use same engine perches?
Such a cool rig
I learned to drive in a Dodge version of this. It was an old service truck my dad retired and brought home, and I would sneak it out while he was at work during the day and drive it. Until he found out and I got my butt beat. LOL. Those things were so light in the rear, even those anemic sixes would light the back tires up. So I'm told, that is.... :)
Will moth balls keep mice away? What do you use to keep them out of your vehicles in storage?
65 and looks cleaner than a 95or even some early 200s cars. pretty clean for the north-east
I was cringing watching him crank on that fuel line fitting. They do make line wrenches.
you act like the wrench was slipping on the outside,
Put a whiskey barrel in back of truck with a aftermarket fuel tank in it. That would look cool love the videos
i set of header pipes would look pretty cool on this old girl
I loved watching you rebuild the 1100. I rebuilt one a few years ago and had the same issue with getting the fuel line started and leaking. Also, the two accelerator pump diaphragms are because the automatic trans version has 2, one gives an extra squirt when letting off the throttle to catch the rpm drop.
The straight 6 purrs again Mustie Style......Here in the UK, those slotted Mags were known as "Wolfrace" branded....Popular in the early seventies....Starter motor was a bargain....Guess the fuel tank will get patched up...lol.
Almost click bait! Wheres the ratty truck?
I love those engines they run forever
You are trying to drawer a vacuum on the temporary fuel can. Needs a vent!
Knew you'd be all over it mate. G'day from Australia. Cheers Andy
cap is loose
I love the big wheels! Heck you gotta do bodywork anyway, just a bit of tweaking will make it work!
I love aluminum slotted mags. My first car was an orange Dodge Challenger R/T which had those on it.
New lights look perfect Mustle! Love the content sir, I am only 22 years old, and I find your content memorizing. Your thought process and critical thinking are second to none. I wish you and your family the best in life.
Run the fattys man that thing will never squat Enuf to hit them
I had a chevy cavalier full brake line and fuel line rust cost $1239 text year fail car junk out ouch!
Great project. I'm enjoying watching this.
I owned a 65 Chevy Van back in the 70s. I loved driving that van but I like the Ford E pickup too.
Excited about this Econoline project, 5 window! Make it your parts getter. The slots look great too!
Come on brother! Hurry up, I can hardly wait for more! This is a cool project for sure.
put the original tires and rims and hub caps on, be original
